Walk-ins welcome · Free consultations · Tattooing Pacific Beach for almost 20 years
Tierrasanta and the rest of 92124 are roughly 12 miles from our studio at 1062 Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach, mostly via SR-52 and I-5. Sideshow Tattoo and Piercing takes walk-ins, offers free consultations, and tattoos in fine line, realism, neo-traditional, black and grey and custom styles.

Why Tierrasanta clients choose Sideshow in Pacific Beach

Tierrasanta is a planned community on a mesa, tucked between Mission Trails and the freeways, so most errands involve a drive. A tattoo is one more reason to get in the car, and the trip to Pacific Beach is shorter than it looks on a map.
  • Bring any idea. A sketch, a photo or a feeling is enough to start a conversation.
  • Talk first. The free consultation lets you ask about size, placement and healing before anything is decided.
  • Open late on weekends. Friday and Saturday hours run to 10pm.
  • Five styles on one page. Compare fine line, realism, neo-traditional, black and grey and minimalist before you come in.

Pacific Beach is roughly 12 miles from Tierrasanta.
  1. Take Santo Road or Tierrasanta Boulevard toward SR-52 West.
  2. Follow SR-52 West toward the coast and merge onto I-5 South where it ends.
  3. Take the Grand Avenue / Garnet Avenue exit in Pacific Beach and head west on Garnet to 1062 Garnet Ave.

Drive time, parking and timing

Outside rush hour, expect 20 to 30 minutes. SR-52 and I-5 slow down on weekday mornings and late afternoons. Midday or evening trips are easier. We are open until 8pm Sunday to Thursday and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Parking: park on the street along Garnet or on the residential streets nearby, and allow a few extra minutes on Friday and Saturday nights.

Whether you start near Tierrasanta Boulevard, Santo Road or the edge of Mission Trails, you will join SR-52 within a few minutes.

Around Tierrasanta

Tierrasanta is a planned community north of Mission Trails Regional Park, with canyons, trails and open space running through the neighborhood. Its tree-lined residential streets and its position between SR-52 and SR-163 give it a quiet feel that is close to the rest of San Diego.

Mission Trails keeps a lot of Tierrasanta residents on the trail, and that matters for a new tattoo. Keep a healing tattoo out of direct sun, sweat and dust, and follow the aftercare instructions your artist gives you. Our tattoo aftercare page covers the basics.

Planning your Tierrasanta tattoo

From Tierrasanta, a free consultation is a good way to decide whether a tattoo is right and what it will take. Bring a rough idea of the subject, the size and the placement.

If you would like to read first, these guides cover the basics: first-time tattoo anxiety tips, how to find a reputable tattoo artist, why professional tattoos cost more and black and grey tattoos in San Diego.

Yes. We welcome clients from across San Diego, including Tierrasanta. Walk-ins are welcome, and consultations are free.

It is better to wait. A new tattoo should stay out of sweat, dust and direct sun while it heals, so plan the tattoo for after your hike and give it time before your next trail day.

SR-52 West to I-5 South is the usual route. Check live traffic before leaving, since SR-52 slows on weekday mornings and late afternoons.

Tell your artist how you spend your time. Placements that are easy to protect from sun and friction heal more comfortably, and sunscreen matters for the long-term life of a tattoo once it has healed.

Yes. Bring photos, and our artists can work in black and grey or fine line to turn a landscape into a tattoo. See our black and grey page for examples.

Yes. Consultations are free whatever the size of the piece, and a large piece is where it helps most to map out the design first.

Call ahead if you have questions, bring reference photos and eat beforehand. The consultation lets you settle the design in one visit and plan the session afterward.
